convention where to stay about Portland
frequently asked questions

REGISTRATION FAQS

May I sign up for less than six full days of the convention?

Registration is offered for the full convention only.

Are meals included?

A buffet dinner will be provided at the opening reception on Tuesday evening as well as a banquet dinner on Saturday night. All other meals are not included. However, there is no shortage of great restaurants for all budgets in Portland, especially in the downtown area, which is a short and fare-less MAX train ride from the hotel.

Is there any discount for volunteering?

Our convention is being run on the energy of the volunteers. Although no monetary compensation is being offered, you have the opportunity to contribute to a well-run, fun convention, meet new friends, and gain a deepened sense of community coupled with the satisfaction of having made something wonderful happen.

Can I cancel my registration?

You may cancel your registration at any time but to receive a refund you must do so by March 11, 2010. A $150 processing fee will be charged for all cancellations. All requests for refunds must be made in writing to the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States (IYNAUS), postmarked by March 11, 2010, and mailed to:

Nina Pileggi, 10200 SW Eastridge St. #125, Portland OR 97225.

All cancellations after March 11, 2010 will not receive a refund or credit of any kind.

Can I change my t-shirt order?

No, you cannot. Given our need to print all t-shirts in time for the convention, the deadline for any changes to t-shirt orders has passed.

Can I pay by credit card even though I indicated payment by check?

ON SITE FAQS

How will I check in on the day of the convention?

Upon arrival at the DoubleTree Hotel in Portland, you will need to stop by the registration tables, located adjacent to the hotel front desk, where you can pick up your name badge and convention materials, including complete schedule and classroom locations. Your name badge will allow you admission to all convention events.

Is parking available?

Parking for those staying at the Doubletree is complimentary. If you are parking at the Doubletree and not staying at the hotel, the charge is $3/day. To take advantage of this special rate, drive into the parking structure and take a parking regular pass. Then, pick up a special pass at the registration/information desk. The special pass gives you the $3 rate and can be handed to the parking attendant when you leave the parking garage.

PROP INFORMATION

What do I need to know about props?

We are very excited that this will be the first convention ever taught by Dr. Geeta Iyengar to focus on Iyengar Yoga Therapy. This FAQ gives you lots of information about props. Please read it carefully. It tells you what is required for you to bring, and it offers some additional options for purchasing props before, during and after the convention. The investment in yoga props will generate a wider range of possibilities for you as a teacher of Iyengar Yoga and also for your students.

What props are required?

You are required to bring a yoga mat, two upper wall ropes, two blocks, two belts, three blankets, an eye wrap and any additional items you need for Salamba Sarvangasana. If possible, bring a bolster. Mark your props in some creative way so that you can easily identify them.

The wall ropes are important for adjusting poses such as the hips in standing poses and the knees in Bhekasana.

You will need to transport these props 4 blocks (from the Oregon Convention Center to the DoubleTree Hotel). Directly outside the DoubleTree Hotel, there is free MAX light rail service that stops in front of the convention center.

Everyone will be together at the Oregon Convention Center for the morning sessions and randomly assigned to a group for the afternoon sessions. Each afternoon the groups will meet in a different room. Four of the rooms are in the hotel and two are at the convention center. Therefore, be prepared to either leave your props at the convention center for the afternoon session, if you are assigned to one of those rooms, or bring your props to your afternoon session at the hotel.

The Oregon Convention Center, DoubleTree Hotel and IYNAUS are not responsible for theft or lost items. There will be volunteers staffing the storage areas and a lost and found booth. Please do not bring any valuables to class.

Are props available for purchase on site?

IYNAUS is offering a prop kit for those who do not want to bring all their props with them. The kit will contain: 3 Mexican style blankets and 2 foam blocks in a Light on Life commemorative yoga bag. This bag is large enough to hold the additional required props. You will still need to bring required items not included in this prop kit.

Cost is $50 (a $70 value). All prop kits must be pre-ordered. You will pay for the kit at the convention but you need to pre-order your prop kit now from the IYNAUS store. No orders can be accepted after March 30, 2010.

Beginning Tuesday, May 11, mats, eye wraps, straps, blocks, and bolsters will be available for purchase from IYNAUS and other vendors at the Convention Store at the DoubleTree Hotel.

Anyone who does not want to carry the prop kit home may donate all or part of it to IYNAUS or other non-profits in the Northwest Region. You may also ship your props home. The business center at the DoubleTree can ship via FedEx or UPS.

What else is available?

Additional props to be used during the convention are available for sale. These may be pre-ordered at this time by contacting the IYNAUS store.
