Reflection: A Convention for Certified Teachers
May 11–16, 2010 Portland, Oregon

The Iyengar Yoga National Association of the U.S. will sponsor Reflection, a convention for Certified Teachers May 11–16, 2010, in beautiful Portland, Oregon. The convention is an opportunity for our Certified Teachers to come together in community and learn from our esteemed teacher Dr. Geeta S. Iyengar.

What to expect

Tuition for the convention is $750 and includes all of the following events and opportunities.

  • Opening ceremonies
    Opening ceremonies on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at 6:00 p.m. will feature a talk by Geetaji entitled What is Yoga Therapy? and include a buffet dinner.
  • Morning classes
    Each morning a mega-class on therapeutics will be taught by Geeta alone, from 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., followed by a break.
  • Afternoon sessions
    Afternoon sessions, 4:00 – 6:30 p.m., will focus on practical applications of the therapeutic approaches taught in the morning sessions, enabling us to better understand Geetaji’s teachings. Convention participants will be randomly divided into six groups; each group will be lead by an instructor from R.I.M.Y.I.
  • Saturday evening banquet and closing ceremony
    There is a banquet on Saturday evening, May 15, 2010, which will include dinner followed by a musical concert by Pandit Mukesh Desai, an internationally acclaimed performing artist and teacher of Indian classical music who has been performing in the West for over twenty years. The convention will conclude after the morning session on Sunday, May 16, with a closing ceremony expected to end at approximately 1:30 p.m.
  • Registration, Convention Store, and Guruji’s 90th Birthday Exhibit
    Registration, the Convention Store, and the Guruji’s 90th Birthday Exhibit will all open on Tuesday, May 11 at 2 p.m.

Geetaji is currently developing the curriculum. Once she has approved the curriculum for the convention, the format will be finalized. Check the website regularly to stay up to date as this curriculum may be subject to change.

Who can attend?

This convention is for Iyengar Yoga Certified Teachers, both US-based and international. This is an opportunity for the teachers to come together and learn from Geetaji, so they can then take this information back into their yoga communities. A number of spaces will be reserved for newly Certified US Teachers from the Fall 2009 assessments. Certified Teachers are encouraged to register at their first opportunity to ensure their space at this remarkable convention. Learn more about how to register.
